Classes

Please note that all our classses require sharpened skates, gloves and a CSA approved hockey or snowboard helmet. Cages are recommended and are required for hockey skate.

Learn to Skate

Our 3 level learn to skate system teaches kids the basics of skating so they can enjoy and go skating for the rest of their lives. It is also a great foundation for kids to go into hockey or figure skating. Upon completion kids can branch off into our hockey skate and figure skate programs or continue skating for fun in our funskate program.

Hockey Skate

Continue to learn skating skills while also learning how to shoot, pass, stickhandle and the basic hockey rules and game. Hockey helmets with a full cage, hockey skates, a stick, gloves and shinpads are required. Full equipment is highly recommended. Please note that this is not purely a hockey class but a blend of skating and hockey instruction.

Figure Skate

Continue developing basic skating skills while learning jumps, spins and musicality. Figure skates with a toepick are highly recommended.

Adult and Teen Skate

It's never too late to start. Whether your goals are to take a few steps on the ice, to do a crossover or to play hockey or to do a jump, we can get you there. Our adult and teen classes feature some group and individual lesson time as well as some open practice time so that you can progress at your own pace while getting to skate with your peers.

Powerskate

Skating is an essential part of hockey and ringette. This class will focus on building speed, power, control and conditioning, all while having fun. It's also great for any athlete that knows how to skate and is looking for a good workout.

Funskate

Funskate is a unique program, focused on the fun in skating. We play games, learn cool moves and have a great time. This class is perfect for those that have basic skating skills but no longer want to continue in lessons or for kids that are in skating lessons or play hockey as a supplement so they both get more ice and skating time and that they can focus better on learning during actual lesson time. Kids will learn cool new skills and tricks as well as gain power and speed. Please note that while kids will improve their skating skills, this is not a skills or learning focused class. Cages are recommended for this class.

Private Lessons

Great to Skate also offers individual and small group lessons around the city. We are happy to tailor our teaching to what you want to know. We can also be booked out for power skating clinics. Please contact us for rates and note that they may differ based on different rinks and number of people participating.
