Tips for the recreational Skater
Don't want to be a skating superstar but enjoy hitting the ice every once in awhile?
Here are some tips to make sure that you make the most out of your time on the ice
1) Make sure your sharpen your skates
It's not just pros that need sharp skates. Sharpening your skates makes it much easier to skate, no matter what level you are. If you don't skate much you likely only need to sharpen your skates once a year. If you skate outdoors your skates may need to be sharpened more frequently.
2) Dry off your skates so they don't rust
Make sure to fully dry your skates each time you use them so that they don't rust. If they do get rusty, take them to get them sharpened.
3) Wear a helmet
It is always a good idea to wear a helmet when skating, particularly if you don't go all that often.
4) Wear thin socks that go up to your skate
If skates fit well, don't wear thick socks with them, it will make them uncomfortable and wouldn't keep your feet any warmer. Also make sure to wear socks that go past your skate so your socks wouldn't be digging in.
5) Tie your skates tightly
While it may take a bit of extra time, all skates should be laced up to the top and tied tightly enough so that the ankle is adequately supported.
